Why Rural Teams Choose VRpatients

Train anywhere | Practice high-risk scenarios safely | Stay sharp between calls | Funding for states nationwide

1. Train Anywhere, Anytime

Web, VR, or Mixed Reality: your team trains on any device, in any setting, anytime, under one platform. No sim lab and no travel. Training goes to your team, not the other way around.

2. Built for the Calls You Don’t Run Often

Trauma. Behavioral health crises. Overdoses. Rehearse the scenarios that matter most, safely and repeatedly, with 50+ ready-made scenarios and a no-code builder to create customized scenarios.

3. Funded in States Nationwide

States are already funding VR and simulation training with Rural Health Transformation Program dollars, including Nebraska’s dedicated “Rural VR & Skills Acceleration Network” and a confirmed EMS simulation award in Oregon. Our team can help you understand what may apply in your state.

Backed by Research, and Already Funded in Multiple States

The National AHEC Organization is putting nearly $2 million in federal workforce funding behind Project PAVE, bringing VR-based health career training to rural and diverse communities. Researchers are documenting the same shift: a 2025 thematic analysis in JMIR Medical Education traces the growing adoption of immersive VR simulation across health professions education.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for Rural Health Transformation Program funding?

States receive the funds and decide who’s eligible for a sub-award. That typically includes hospitals, health systems, universities and colleges, local health departments, and provider associations. Sub-recipients don’t have to be located in a rural area, but the funded work has to benefit rural residents.

How do I apply for Rural Health Transformation funds?

Through your state. Each state runs its own application on its own timeline. Start at your state health department’s Rural Health Transformation page.

Can the funds be used for virtual simulation training?

In many states, yes. Training and technical assistance for adopting technology-enabled solutions is one of the program’s permissible use categories, and several states, including Nebraska, South Dakota, Oregon, and Kentucky, have already funded VR or simulation training specifically. Talk to us, and your state program office, about what applies to you.

Can the funds be used to build a simulation center?

No. New construction and major capital improvements aren’t permitted. That’s part of why training that doesn’t require a dedicated lab, like a browser or headset-based platform, fits well within the program’s rules.

Does virtual simulation training require special equipment?

No. Web, VR headset, or mixed reality, are all under one platform, though programs using VR and MR will need access to a VR headset: your team starts with whatever hardware they already have.

How does VR training compare to mannequin-based simulation?

Same repeatable, high-stakes scenario practice, without the cost of a dedicated lab, physical manikins, or travel. An added bonus: VR can complement manikin-based training through the integration of Mixed Reality.
